The Federal Government has stepped up its humanitarian and security response in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following the recent deadly attacks that claimed several lives and displaced residents. On Saturday, Vice President Kashim Shettima led a top-level federal delegation to the affected communities, signaling the administration’s determination to restore peace and normalcy in the area.
The Vice President visited Nuku and Woro villages, where he met with community leaders, victims and residents impacted by the violence. During the visit, Shettima delivered the condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to families who lost loved ones in the attacks and assured them that the Federal Government would not abandon them in their moment of grief.
He emphasized that the President had ordered immediate humanitarian intervention to address the urgent needs of those affected. According to Shettima, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency (KSEMA), has been directed to swiftly deploy relief materials, including food items, medical supplies and other essential support, to assist displaced and traumatized residents.
Beyond humanitarian assistance, the Vice President confirmed that robust security measures had already been put in place to prevent further attacks. He disclosed that a full battalion of the Nigerian Army has been deployed to Kaiama, alongside other security agencies, as part of a coordinated operation to secure the area, reassure residents and deter criminal elements.
Shettima noted that the Federal Government views the situation in Kaiama not just as a local concern but as a national security issue that requires decisive and sustained action. He stressed that the administration remains committed to strengthening security across vulnerable communities while working closely with state authorities and local stakeholders to address the root causes of insecurity.
According to him, the visit was intended to demonstrate the Federal Government’s solidarity with the people of Kaiama and the Kwara State Government, as well as to reaffirm President Tinubu’s resolve to protect lives and property across the country. He assured residents that security forces would remain in the area for as long as necessary to restore confidence and enable displaced persons to return safely to their homes.
Community leaders who interacted with the Vice President welcomed the federal intervention and appealed for continued security presence, infrastructural development and social support to prevent future violence. The Federal Government, Shettima added, would continue to monitor the situation closely and adjust its response to ensure lasting peace and stability in Kaiama and its surrounding communities.
